Celtics Ladies team remain unbeaten in Limerick League
Our ladies team continued their unbeaten Limerick league campaign with a convincing 30 point win over St Colm’s Scholars on Tuesday night. Michelle Aspell opened the scoring with some great outside shooting. Shelly Quigley, Louise Lane and Rebecca Fitzgerald increased Celtics first quarter lead as our Celtics ladies took a commanding 22 – 5 lead. Celtics continued to dominate throughout this game with further scores from Nicola Doyle and Edel Quigley. Top scorers on the night were Michelle Aspell on 25, Shelly Quigley on 14, Nicola Doyle and Rebecca Fitzgerald both on 10 points.
Celtics bow out to St Pauls
Our ladies team were unlucky in their semi final lost to St Paul’s Killarney on Wednesday night. Our ladies again led from the start and had strong shots and fast breaks from Michelle Aspell and Shelly Quigley. Our ladies led for three quarters of this game but some strong rebounding and outside shooting from St Pauls gave the Kerry side a 7 point lead with 2 minutes to go. The Kerry ladies held on to reach back to back Kerry cup Finals but our girls can be very proud of a great performance against the reigning National Cup Winners. Top scorer on the night was Michelle Aspell on 35 points.
Congratulations to Adam Barry on his Irish Schools Team Selection
Congratulations to Adam Barry on his selection to the Irish Under 15 schoolboys squad. Adam was one of our first players to join Limerick Celtics when the club was set up four years and he has grown to be one of Ireland’s strongest under 15 players. From all the members we wish Adam the very best of luck with what is hopefully his first of many Irish caps.
Well done to our boys and girls under 12 teams on two fantastic performances in the Division One Kerry Cup finals last Sunday in Killarney. Our girls staged a fantastic comeback after St Mary’s Castleisland took a commanding early lead. Great scores from Allie Whiston, Jemma Duhig and Tess Mc Loughlin brought the game back to 23 – 21 in favour of Castleisland midway through the fourth quarter. Our girls battled really hard in the closing minutes but St Mary’s held on to their slim lead to take the title. Our girls can be very proud of themselves as they continue to go from strength to strength and up next is the Kerry Open tournament. Our boys under1 2’s came up against an unbeaten KCYMS team but took an early 10 -6 side at the end of the first quarter. It was basket for basket for the remainder of this very exciting Cup clash. Jordan Hehir, Adam Marshall and Kevin Dowling hit some superb scores to give our boys a two point league coming into the last minute of this fantastic game but a late score from KCYMS tied the game to bring it into extra time. Again some great scores from Hehir and Dowling kept our boys neck and neck with their strong Kerry opposition in extra time but two free throws from KCYMS in the dying seconds of extra time sealed what was a cracker of a game for the Kerry outfit. Well done to the entire squad who have also improved so much over the course of this season. Well done to Cian Reale, Mark Dillon, Diarmuid Curley and Leo Morrision on winning their All Ireland playoff tournament with Crescent Comp and progressing to the All Ireland semi final. Well done to all our schools players who had great performances for their school teams over the weekend. Best of luck to Jamie Marshall and his St Clements side in their All Ireland under 16 Cup final this Thursday in Dublin.

Sunday tournament
Under 14 tournaments a huge success
Limerick Celtics boys and girls preseason tournaments produced some outstanding performances on Sunday against some of Ireland’s strongest clubs. Our Tigers girls had a great win over Kilester Kubs from Dublin but lost out in their other pool game to Wildcats from Waterford. Some great scoring from Emma O’ Donoghue, Megan O’ Shea , grace goggin and Ciara Lane helped our girls to some impressive displays. Jenny Morrisson, Laura Molyneaux and Grace O’ Regan were impressive as they battled hard to control our boards and so were Louise Ryan, aoife lane, rachel malcauley and alice as they played their first under 14 games of the new season. Our Panthers girls also produced some great performances and we cot a welcome boast with the addition of ashling sargent, Sinead Mc Kenna, Amy Sargent and Aoife Whiston. The Panthers played some excellent games and were unlucky to lose out in some close games. Helena Stewart, Tara Sanfey and Niamh Fenton impressed in their first under 14 outings. Emma Moore’s visit to the gym was one of the highlights of the day for all the committee, coaches and girls who showed how delighted they were to see Emma. Everyone at Celtics wishes Emma a speedy recovery and we are all awaiting her return to the court. Most of our under 12 boys also made the step up to under 14 grade and when you consider that they were playing against some of the strongest teams in the country they really gave a very good account of themselves in each of their pool games. Overall they boys had a very impressive team performance with some great scores from Adam Barry, Mark Dillon and Ruari Brown. Neptune won the boys tournament after a very exciting final against maree from galway while tralee Imperials went on to win the girls tournament beating templeogue in their final. Special thanks must go to all the committee and players who put so much effort into the under 14 tournaments. Thank you to each one of you for all the help!! .
